How IVF Works at Open Fertility Roseville
Consultations, monitoring, and treatment planning happen locally at your Roseville clinic with your dedicated Open Fertility provider. Egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and all embryology are supported through Spring Fertility’s Sunnyvale procedural and laboratory infrastructure. Your care team walks you through each step and what to expect at both locations.
01 Initial Testing
Meet with your Open Fertility provider to complete initial testing and learn more about what to expect with IVF. This appointment takes about an hour, and you will have plenty of time to ask questions. Semen analysis may be recommended as part of the evaluation for sperm-producing partners and will be discussed at your consultation.
02 Treatment Plan
The results from your initial visit, including your ovarian reserve, hormone levels, medical history, diagnosis where applicable, and reproductive goals, allow your provider to build a personalized treatment plan and calendar that reflects your clinical picture and schedule.
03 Ovarian Stimulation
When you decide to move forward, you will begin self-administering hormonal injections to grow the eggs in your ovaries. We teach you how. We monitor your ovaries’ progress with transvaginal ultrasounds (internal ultrasounds providing a detailed view of the ovaries) and bloodwork throughout this stage.
04 Egg Retrieval
Once your follicles have reached the appropriate stage of development, you will be scheduled for your egg retrieval, a 20-minute outpatient procedure performed by a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist under general anesthesia. For this procedure, you will travel to Spring Fertility’s lab in Sunnyvale, CA. Your care team will provide specific arrival and preparation instructions in advance. Many patients are able to return to work or normal daily activities the following day, though recovery varies. Arrange a ride home following the procedure.

05 Sperm Production
If a fresh sperm sample is part of your treatment plan, your care team will provide specific collection instructions. Donor or previously cryopreserved sperm is prepared according to the treatment plan.
06 Fertilization & Embryo Development
Embryologists fertilize your eggs with sperm. Fertilization may occur through conventional insemination or ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) depending on your treatment plan. Eggs that successfully fertilize begin to grow into embryos over the following days.
07 Preimplantation Genetic Testing (Optional)
If you elect to test your embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, embryos that reach the appropriate stage of development may be biopsied and cryopreserved while testing is completed. Your provider walks you through what the results mean and helps you plan the next step once they’re in.
08 Embryo Transfer
Your embryologist and Open Fertility provider select an embryo for transfer based on available clinical and embryology information. This procedure typically causes little or minimal discomfort, takes place at Spring Fertility’s Sunnyvale facility, and is completed by a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist while you are awake. A pregnancy test follows approximately two weeks later.

How long can embryos stay frozen?
Embryo freezing has been performed since the 1980s. Open Fertility has seen births from embryos cryopreserved for more than 10 years, and sperm cryopreservation has produced successful outcomes from samples frozen for as long as 19 years. Clinical experience beyond 10 to 15 years remains limited.
What does traveling to the partner lab involve?
You will travel to Spring Fertility’s Sunnyvale facility for your egg retrieval and embryo transfer. Your care team will provide specific arrival and preparation instructions in advance. You will need a ride home after your egg retrieval. Many patients are able to return to work or normal daily activities the following day.
Do you offer IUI?
