Answers to Your Most Asked Questions

We want to make your journey as straightforward and accessible as possible. Here, you’ll find answers to our most frequently asked questions about our care, services, costs, and what to expect—so you can feel informed and confident every step of the way.

About Open Fertility

What is Open’s Provider model?

At Open, you will have a dedicated Provider (generally a Nurse Practitioner) who will
be responsible for directly managing your care – from discussing your goals and
treatment plans in your initial consult, to identifying the protocol best suited to you, to
monitoring your stimulation and adjusting medication dosages appropriately. They will
be with you every step of the way, including after your procedures to discuss outcomes
and partner on next steps.

Our Providers are overseen and mentored by Open Fertility’s Chief Medical Officer, a
board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist, to ensure that you
are receiving the best possible care.

All procedures, including egg retrievals and embryo transfers will be completed by a
Physician.

You will also have a dedicated Patient Navigator who will be available to you via phone
and our Salve App throughout your treatment to answer any questions that you may
have.

How do I contact my care team?

During business hours, your care team will be available to you by phone or via our

Salve App. We strive to get back to all messages within 1-2 business days.

If you have a medical emergency, we also have an after-hours phone line that is
available for patients to call 24/7.

Do we have our own IVF lab?

Not yet! For now, we are partnering with Spring Fertility to use their surgery centers and
embryology labs. That’s where all procedures will be completed
and your tissue will be stored. You can read more about Spring Fertility’s leading
cryosafety standards here.

Who do we use for Genetic Testing?

We primarily work with Natera for genetic testing. The embryology lab will biopsy
embryos on-site and then each embryo remains in the lab and is cryopreserved while

biopsy samples are shipped to Natera. The samples are analyzed by Natera and results
are sent back to us to interpret.

Fertility Treatments

What can I expect during the initial consult?

We want to ensure your first visit is thorough, convenient, and informative. Here’s what the process looks like:

In-Clinic Testing: When you arrive, we’ll start with a blood draw to check your hormone levels and gather key information about your fertility health. Next, you’ll have a transvaginal ultrasound performed by one of our expert sonographers. This allows us to
assess your ovarian health and give us a clearer picture of your fertility.

Video Consultation with Your Provider: After your testing, you’ll meet with your provider through a video consult from the comfort of the clinic. They’ll review your medical history, discuss the results from your ultrasound, and talk through any initial findings or next steps.

Sperm-Producing Partner Testing (If Applicable): If a semen analysis is part of your journey, this will be done separately using a convenient at-home testing kit. We’ll provide clear instructions for how and when to complete this after your initial consult.
By the end of your visit, you’ll have a tailored plan and a clear understanding of the next steps in your fertility journey. We’re here to guide you every step of the way!

What should I bring to my initial consult?

Please bring a photo ID, a copy of your insurance card (if applicable), and a form of payment (cash, check, credit card).

Financial Considerations

What is the cost of an initial consult?

The cost of a consult is $195, due at the time of your appointment. The outside lab will bill your insurance for any bloodwork, and if you do not have insurance, they will bill you directly. Open will not be able to collect payment for bloodwork.

How are Open Fertility’s prices for treatment so much lower than other clinics?

We believe that excellent fertility care doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. Our Providers are highly trained and specialize in fertility care, allowing us to deliver the same level of expertise and attention without the higher costs typically associated with doctor-only care.

We’ve also streamlined protocols and reduced the number of office visits, saving you time and money.

Do you accept insurance?

No. By focusing on self-pay, we’re able to offer transparent pricing and avoid the inflated costs often tied to insurance reimbursements. This helps us keep our prices lower for everyone.

We understand that not accepting insurance may feel challenging, but many of our patients find that our self-pay prices are often more affordable than the out-of-pocket costs they face even with insurance.

What is your cash pay discount?

To support flexibility in payment options, we’re pleased to offer a 2.5% discount on our listed prices when payments are made using cash, check, wire or ACH transfer. This discount applies at the time of payment and is available for patients who choose one of these payment methods. To take advantage of this discount, please contact your financial counselor before your baseline appointment.

Travel Logistics

Can I complete my initial consultation virtually?

No. We ask that you come into the Open clinic for your initial consult so that we can complete all testing (bloodwork and ultrasound) before you speak with your provider.

What does traveling for procedures entail?

We ask that you arrive at least 90 minutes before your scheduled procedure. Please account for traffic and time to park. As you will be under anesthesia for your egg retrieval, we also ask that you have a ride home. Most patients take the day of the egg retrieval off of work, and feel fine enough to return to work the following day.
